MMFC was only a dream in the summer of 2010 when a few local aeronautic enthusiasts had visions of constructing a dedicated flying site for model aeroplanes and helicopters. This was no mean feat and the results, only some months later, speak for themselves.
Gone are the days of travelling rough laneways looking for a suitable and consented area to fly your models. Mullingar now has a dedicated flying site for Model Aeroplanes and Helicopters. It is conveniently situated in Robinstown, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath just minutes from the town centre
Model flying is a clean and really enjoyable sport. It will appeal to those young and old, those who dream of building and flying models or those of you who merely want to fly. We fly helicopters, trainer planes, 3D aerobatic planes and scale models which are powered by electric, nitro or petrol motors. We fly every Sunday, weather permitting, but you are likely to see members flying during the week, on Saturdays or even on an extended lunch break !!! The sport is best enjoyed with the craic and help of others club members.
Our aims are to provide a safe and accessible flying site and to promote an enjoyable experience of flying model aircraft. MMFC club members have a wealth of knowledge which we are ready to share with you. Newcomers are always welcome and we will endeavour to provide mentoring and assistance as necessary. We may be even able to lend you some advice on the model type that might suit you or send you in the right direction.
Gift Vouchers
In response to requests we are now making Gift Vouchers available for sale. Family members of some of our club members expressed interest in buying their loved ones a voucher towards paying some (or all) of their club membership. We have now made this service available, often families or grandchildren all chip in together and buy club membership as a present for their loved ones.
For anyone who wants to give Model Flying a shot but doesn't want the expense of buying a plane we can also help. We can provide dual control lessons using the Club's Trainer Plane. Lessons last for about 1 hour and allow you get tuition and take two 10 minute flights. This is a really enjoyable experience without the cost of or stress of crashing your own plane.
